Welcome to the Air Quality Bureau (AQB) of the New Mexico Environment Department.

Our mission is to protect the inhabitants and natural beauty of New Mexico by preventing the deterioration of air quality.

We implement strategic planning to ensure that all air quality standards are met and maintained.

We issue air quality construction and operating permits to make sure that air quality regulations are implemented fairly and consistently.

We ensure compliance with air quality regulations and permit conditions.

We provide guidance on air quality modeling to demonstrate compliance with air quality standards.

We inventory emissions from industrial sources.

The Air Quality Bureau has authority over air quality in all areas of New Mexico except Bernalillo County and Tribal Lands. The City of Albuquerque/Bernalillo Air Quality Division regulates businesses located in Bernalillo County and may be reached at (505) 768-1972. The New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) is pleased to announce a grant funding opportunity for the Clean Diesel Program funded through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA). NMED invites universities, private organizations, non-profit organizations, businesses, and any county, city, or other local government in New Mexico to submit applications for this program. Up to $686,728 of total funding is available through this grant opportunity. The NMED has successfully implemented a variety of DERA projects on 14 fleets throughout the state since 2008. NMED has released its draft of the 2021 Annual Network Review at /2021 Annual Network Review Draft/. This report is  available for public comment until May 9, 2021 and will then be sent to EPA for review. Go to the Air Monitoring Network page for more information.

NSR Permit Application Fee amounts have been updated for calendar year 2020. The new fee amounts are applied for all new permit applications beginning January 1, 2021. Please make sure to submit the correct fee amount with your applications. Click Here for more information
